In an effort to enhance the medical capabilities of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS), two significant training workshops were conducted over the past two days specifically for FCS medical personnel, focusing on critical health issues that are prevalent within correctional facilities, namely Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV.
Yesterday, FCS medical staff participated in a one-day training workshop on Tuberculosis facilitated by the TB Program officer, Dr. Luse, in which she educated the medical team on effective TB treatment protocols and improve their clinical skills in screening and managing TB cases. The workshop covered various aspe
cts of TB management, including: Diagnosis Techniques, Treatment Protocols and Preventive Measures.
Today, another crucial training session was held focusing on HIV care, facilitated by the National Sexual Reproductive Health officer, Dr. Dharshika Balak. This workshop aimed to increase awareness among FCS medical staff regarding HIV managem
ent and enhance effective care for inmates living with HIV. Key components of this training included: Understanding HIV Transmission, Treatment Options and Psychosocial Support.
This training is particularly important as it helps create a more informed healthcare environment within correctional facilities,
ensuring that inmates receive comprehensive care tailored to their needs.
With enhanced knowledge regarding TB and HIV management, FCS medical personnel are better equipped to provide high-quality care to inmates.
These workshops represent a significant step forward in improving healthcare delivery within Fiji’s correctional facilities by addressing critical health challenges such as TB and HIV.
