A significant courtesy visit took place today at the Chinese Embassy in Nasese, where Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa, Commissioner of Fiji Corrections Services (FCS), met with Mr. Zhao Jian, Ambassador of China to Fiji. This meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to address the growing challenges posed by drug-related offenses in Fiji.
The meeting provided an opportunity to explore potential collaboration as development partners and to identify areas where China could offer assistance. A key focus was the vision to establish a rehabilitation center for drug and sexual offenders, which would enable the FCS to implement specialized rehabilitation programs aimed at addressing addiction.

Ambassador Zhao Jian conveyed China’s willingness to support the FCS, similar to its partnership with the Fiji Police Force. This assistance may also encompass training programs for officers.
Both parties expressed their gratitude for the discussions and the opportunity to establish a new relationship as development partners.
