THE Fiji Corrections Service has this week responded to a request by Fiji Pine Ltd for assistance in the rehabilitation of pine forests.

FCS Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Jo Kulinidilo attended a meeting with FPL officials in Lautoka last week.

Following the meeting, it was agreed that 60 officers and inmates would be deployed to aid in the rehab program which is expected to take up to three weeks.

The rehabilitation will involve the straightening of pine trees.

The effort by the FCS is part of its contribution to the rehab works carried out in the aftermath of TC Winston, in addition to the initial task of carrying out general cleaning activities at schools, villages and other areas adversely affected by the cyclone.

FCS Commissioner Commander Francis Kean has urged the deployed team to carry out the task immediately so as to aid in the swift rehabilitation of the forests.
