New piggery for Naboro

The Fiji Corrections Service opened a new piggery shed in Naboro to facilitate the growing demands of the business.

In officiating at the opening of the shed, Commissioner of Corrections, Lt.Colonel Ifereimi Vasu said that the FCS is trying its best to assist Government in reducing imported food and growing our own locally.

“The FCS is growing by the day and the piggery business which is part of our commercial enterprise unit has indeed developed greatly. I have great pleasure in seeing it develop to what it has become today,” said Lt.Colonel Vasu.

“We have been receiving orders from the outskirts of Suva and Nausori as well as buyers from the West. That is why we have decided to set up outlets at our Nasinu and Lautoka Corrections Centre so that people have access to our products and produce,” added Lt.Colonel Vasu.

For the first six months of 2013, the FCS piggery shed had a total of 505 pigs and for the same period this year, it now has a total of 684 pigs.

The shed was constructed at a total cost of $115,000 by the FCS engineers for a period of six months.
