The Fiji Correction Services in partnership with the Ministry of Employment, Productivity & Industrial Relations jointly organized a three day Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training course which was officially opened this morning by the Assistant Commissioner, Mr. Auta Moceisuva at the Coffee Shop.
There are 31 personnel which will be attending the three day training and will be facilitated by Ms. Marica Naikelekelevesi of the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations. Ms. Naikelekelevesi emphasized that maintaining a safe working environment is not just a regulatory requirement but also a moral obligation towards staff and inmates alike.
During his opening remarks, Mr. Moceisuva provided an insightful overview of the history of OHS safety measures in institutions, particularly focusing on how these practices have evolved over time within the corrections system. He emphasized the need for a robust safety protocol and how it could shape policies aimed at preventing workplace accidents and promoting health and safety among staff. Mr. Moceisuva added that OHS is critical for maintaining operational efficiency and safeguarding personnel’s well-being in high-stress environments such as correctional facilities.
This workshop signifies a proactive step towards enhancing workplace safety within Fiji’s correctional facilities and for continuous improvement in occupational health standards.
