The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) and the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) have jointly launched the anti-bribery campaign aimed at fostering integrity and transparency within public service sectors. The event took place at the Korovou Coffee Shop, bringing together key representatives from both institutions to combating corruption in Fiji.
The Acting Deputy Commissioner Ms. Francis Puleiwai and Commissioner of Corrections Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa emphasized the importance of this initiative in reinforcing ethical standards among public servants. By promoting awareness and understanding of anti-bribery laws, Ms Pulewai believes that this initiative will empower employees to resist corrupt practices and report any unethical behavior they encounter.
Dr. Nakarawa echoed the critical role that FCS plays in upholding law and order within society. He noted that by collaborating with FICAC, they are setting a precedent for other governmental bodies to follow suit in prioritizing integrity over malfeasance.
Dr. Nakarawa expressed optimism about the positive outcomes this campaign could yield, including improved morale among staff and enhanced public confidence in correctional services.
Following the launch, FICAC partners conducted a comprehensive training and awareness session for senior officers. This session was designed to equip participants with practical tools and knowledge necessary to identify, prevent, and report bribery effectively.
With strong leadership from Ms. Puleiwai and Dr. Nakarawa, coupled with active engagement from both organizations, there is hope for a more transparency and accountability.
