The Fiji Corrections Service launched the 2014 Yellow Ribbon Project in Valelevu, Nasinu which was attended by more than 300 people from all walks of life.
In officiating at the opening of the launch, chief guest and Special Administrator, Mr Mosese Kama reminded those that were present that it is imperative that inmates are given a second chance in life.
“We need to make them feel loved when they return from serving their time in the corrections facilities because this is the only way that we can assist them in staying on track,” explained Mr Kama.
Since its inception in 2008, the Yellow Ribbon Programme (YRP) has developed in leaps and bounds.
“It is currently the flagship of the Fiji Corrections Service with three operational pillars- creating awareness, seeking acceptance and inspiring action in support of offenders by the community.”
So far this year, there have been YRP launches in Kadavu and Ovalau and another one to take place in Taveuni at the end of this month.
