The Ministry of iTaukai Affairs and iTaukei Affairs Board as part of their Corporate exercise visited the Suva Corrections Center in Korovou on Wednesday, March 27.
The delegation of 50 members, led by their Director Development Services, Mrs Marilyn Tagicakibau visited the Suva Corrections Centre, the Tagimoucia Art Gallery, including the Women’s Corrections Centre.
The visit was facilitated through the Rehabilitation Unit of the FCS with the approval of the Commissioner of Corrections in line with plans in the pipe line to integrate the services of the iTaukei Affairs into the rehabilitation programmes in future.
“This visit from their Ministry iTaukei Affairs is an opportunity for the Ministry officials to see for their own eyes what we do here and also to initiate a forum where we can explore further opportunities to work together, ’’ said Director Rehabilitation for the FCS CCO Waisale Soqonakalou.
The tour proved to be an eye opener for the visitors, all of whom were visiting the facilities for the first time. MTA officials acknowledged the excellent work done by the Fiji Correctional Service, in trying to rehabilitate our brothers and sisters that are incarcerated.
“We believe that the Ministry has a role to play, and this opportunity was an excellent event to propel us to the next step,’’ said Mrs Tagicakibau.
“The visit yesterday was to gain first had experience into what the Fiji Corrections Services entails and how Rehabilitation work was carried out.”
Mrs Tagicakibau also shared that apart from visitations the Club also took part in a Ministry and Board initiative of Wednesday Wellness Day which is dedicated to planting trees, foreshore cleaning or other activities focused on greener environment.
“We believe FCS has also participated in this.”
