The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) held its annual Corrections Day Celebrations at the Naboro Headquarters. This event is a significant occasion that recognizes the contributions and efforts of corrections personnel in maintaining safety and order within Fiji’s correctional facilities.
The Chief Guest for this year’s Correction Day was the Minister of Housing and Local Government Hon. Maciu Nalumisa, who was warmly welcomed with a quarter guard parade performed by FCS personnel. Following the parade, a traditional sevusevu ceremony was conducted to honor Hon. Nalumisa. The sevusevu is an integral part of Fijian culture, involving the presentation of yaqona (kava) to signify welcome and respect for guests.
The Corrections Day Celebrations were attended by numerous distinguished guests, reflecting the collaborative spirit among various sectors involved in public safety and community service. Notable attendees included Mr. Puamau Sowane, Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority (NFA), and Colonel Talemaibau, Director of Human Resource Management

from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).
Additionally, former corrections officers were recognized during the celebrations for their service and dedication to improving Fiji’s correctional landscape. Colleagues from both the NFA and Ministry of Local Government also participated, emphasizing a united front in addressing issues related to public safety and rehabilitation.
The event not only celebrated past achievements but also reinforced commitments towards future improvements in corrections practices across Fiji.
