The Fiji Corrections Service on the morning of Saturday, 21 September, 2019 undertook a nationwide road side cleanup campaign as part of its Civic Pride exercise for both inmates and officers.

Around 105 inmates with over 70 officers were involved altogether from 15 Correction Centers around the country.

Deputy Commissioner of Corrections Senior Superintendent Apimeleki Taukei said this was a form of giving back to the community by cleaning up the environment.

“This is all part and parcel of programs we have in place as we countdown to the annual Yellow Ribbon Walk scheduled for October 12 in Lautoka,’’ he said.

“This morning’s exercise was good for all of us, especially for those under our care as such an undertaking helps instil pride by keeping our communities clean.

“We plan to have another one before the Walk next month.”

The annual Yellow Ribbon Walk will now be held for the first time in the Western Division in response to the high offending rate experienced in the division in the last 8-months.
