The Northern Division soccer team took out the inaugural inter-unit soccer competition for the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) at Bidesi Park beating Southern Division 2-0 in an exciting encounter.
The one day meet brought together officers and civilians in the FCS from the institutions around the country.
The Northerners showed their seriousness early in the day when they unveiled their playing uniform which is similar to the training colours of the champion Labasa soccer team.
Supervisor Northern Division ASC Viniasi Buli said although they didn’t have much training time together, he expressed to his players that what they must show the same tenacity and team work they show every day at work in how they play.
“It was all about team work, but overall we also came to have fun because we hardly come out like this to enjoy the company of our fellow officers from around the country and just have fun,’’ ASC Buli said.
The event is the second event organized this year to promote team work and supporting Government’s stance in the battle against Non-Communicable Diseases.
Two months ago, the FCS also organized an Inter-Unit 7s Tournament to select their mens and womens 7s teams for the year and also honour the same themes.
“The latest statistics for diabetes in the country is very alarming,’’ said Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Operations Salote Panapasa.
“Even here the FCS we have also had our fair share of people who have suffered from a NCD related disease.
“So we are organizing such events not only for our people to come out and relax from their challenging working environment but also to keep fit and stay healthy.”
“Today we see all of those who are off-duty from the major divisions, they have prepared for this event and we hope they will enjoy meeting their fellow officers from around the country.”
