FCS National Headquarters, Suva, Fiji – The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) was pleased to welcome Mr. Filipe Batiwale, the newly appointed Commissioner for the Online Safety Commission, during his courtesy visit to the FCS National Headquarters in Suva. This visit marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the two commissions in addressing online safety and the challenges posed by social media.
During the meeting, the Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service (COMCOR) briefed Mr. Batiwale on the latest developments within the FCS, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to transparency in its policies and procedures. COMCOR addressed the ongoing social media controversies surrounding the FCS and discussed the pressures the organization faces due to the evolving digital landscape.
In a spirit of cooperation, COMCOR reiterated the FCS’s unwavering support for the Online Safety Commission, recognizing the importance of its work in promoting safe online practices. Mr. Batiwale shared insights into the functions and core roles of the Online Safety Commission, highlighting their current focus on advocacy and the need for collaboration with various ministries to enhance their prosecutorial powers in cases related to cyberbullying and defamation.
